Awhile back I discovered a little program called Starfish. The small (fits on a floppy!) program actually creates random desktop backgrounds, such as the one you're looking at right now (although this background's brightness has been substantially increased to allow you to read this). The program is free and includes source code; download it for Mac OS and UNIX at http://www.redplanetsw.com/starfish/. You'll also find a link to a native Mac OS X version!

Up until recently, the program was available only for Mac OS and Unix, but recently a Windows version was released. I started this gallery so that Windows users could enjoy Starfish without having to use a superior OS =), but now, you can download it for Windows 98/2000 and newer here.

Despite the Windows release, I'm going to keep the Starfish Gallery up here. Please enjoy it.
